The novel tells the story of Lahore born and raised Princeton graduate 'Changez' who was living the American Dream when the 9/11 takes place and how his life took a dramatic turn. He recounts his life and the events that took place post 9/11 to an American in the Old Anarkali Bazaar in Lahore. He makes clever comparisons between the the countries and shares how the events back home, with an American invasion of the neighboring Afghanistan and a stand-off between India and Pakistan after the Indian Parliament attack and his failed love life had convinced him to give up the American Dream and return to his country.
